ESR5: Effects of intravitreal slow controlled release of neurotrophic retinal Müller glial cell (RMC)-derived factors (Germany)
The Institute for Ophthalmic Research at the Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen (EKUT) is headed by Prof. Marius Ueffing and cooperates closely with the University Eye Hospital (Prof. Karl Ulrich Bartz-Schmidt) under the common roof of the Centre for Ophthalmology. Our group focuses on identify pathomechanisms of Retina Degeneration (RD), find genetic and biomarker signatures and develop personalized therapeutic approaches for RD. This last goal includes validation of therapies in animal models and translation into clinical practice.
DOCTORAL STUDENT POSITION (Early Stage Researcher 5: Effects of intravitreal slow controlled release of neurotrophic retinal Müller glial cell (RMC)-derived factors)
We invite applications for a three-year Early Stage Researcher (Ph.D. student) position being part of OCUTHER – European Training Network within Marie Sklodowska Curie Programme Applicants should be self-motivated and able of analytical thinking. A strong interest and background in neurosciences, cell biology, cell signalling or molecular biology is favourable. Proficient communication skills in English as well as organizational skills are required.
The young researcher will gain knowledge in retina structure as well as in cell biology, and will develop various in vivo and in vitro skills essential for validate neuroprotective therapeutic approaches in retina degeneration. The Early Stage Researcher (ESR) will be involved in research on the therapeutic potency of novel neurotrophic factors in vivo and the efficacy of their application using sustained delivery systems. To this end, the ESR will participate in generation of delivery systems to improve intraocular administration and sustained release of neurotrophic peptides, validate RMC-derived neurotrophic peptide efficacy against neuronal cell death in rodent animal models of retinal degeneration, and finally, the ERS will test, optimise and validate intravitreal application of RMC-derived factors using a sustained delivery system.
BENEFITS
Highly competitive salary as well as funds to participate in training activities of the OcuTher network as well as in international conferences. The candidate will also enrol in the PhD program of the Graduate Training Center of Neuroscience at Eberhard Karls University Tübingen (http://www.neuroschool-tuebingen.de) for lectures, seminars, and other learning activities.
Please send CV and a letter of intent to Blanca Arango-Gonzalez (blanca.arango-gonzalez@klinikum.uni-uni-tuebingen.de)
