This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No 722717.

ESR15: Development of a physiologically based systems pharmacology model of the eye; Simcyp (UK)

SIMCYP is a research based company with expertise in developing Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetic software (PBPK) that is used by academic, regulatory and industrial scientists across the world. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to interact with our team of internationally recognised scientists, specialising in the field of modeling & simulation. The successful applicant will be based at the Simcyp offices in Sheffield, UK but will be registered for a PhD at the University of Eastern Finland.

SIMCYP invites applications for the OCUTHER – European Training Network within Marie Sklodowska Curie Programme. The applications are invited for a:

DOCTORAL STUDENT POSITION (Early Stage Researcher 15: Development of a physiologically based systems pharmacology of the eye)

Drug delivery to the retina is problematic, since only repeated and invasive intravitreal injections are effective means to deliver drug into the retina. In this ESR project, a physiologically based systems pharmacology model of the eye will be developed. The project will involve collation of available information on the relevant physiology, drug metabolizing enzyme and transporter abundance in the healthy and diseased eye and incorporation of the collated information in to a systems pharmacology model capable of predicting drug disposition in the eye. The systems pharmacology model of the eye will be linked to full body PBPK models. In addition, strategies will be developed to allow in vitro-in vivo extrapolation of drug metabolism, transport and permeability processes in the eye.

Required background: BSc or MSc degree in an appropriate field of science (e.g. pharmacy, medicine, chemistry, biology).
